When / How to use this dashboard

The Demand Planning dashboards in Headset will enable you to gauge and plan for product demand, understand seasonal trends as they relate to the total adult use cannabis market, and identify changes in the expected sales cycle. Many tiles on this dashboard feature comparisons between Total Market and Filter Selection. The Total Market is defined as the total adult use sales/units within your selected Date and Market. The Filter Selection reflects adult use sales/units within your selected filters including Date and Market. These two groups allows for comparisons in demand between the market and your selected filters.

Visualizing data over time can identify seasonal trends that may occur over multiple years, compare relative periods of high demand, and contrast these against changes in the total market. You can also use this dashboard to analyze the seasonal trends of selected brands or the impact of changes in the marketplace on a selected segment. This should help you plan for production cycles and inventory deliveries.

Period Over Period Volume
This visualization should give you a base line understanding of sales trends for your filtered selection. Changes from the prior period can surface a trend that we can compare over multiple years and compare that to the total market. The graph below shows Pre-Rolls in Washington. We see a consistent pattern of lower sales (units) in January & February over a 4-year period.

The left shows our filter selection (Pre-Rolls) scale that we can use to measure the vertical bars. The horizontal axis shows us the months of the year, and right vertical axis shows us the month over month change in unit volume illustrated by the dotted line. Hover over any vertical bar to read the sales in units, and hover over any point on the dark line to read the change in percent from the previous month.

Period Over Period Comparison to Total Market.
This visualization gives you a comparison between your filtered selection and the total Adult Use cannabis market.
Use this tile to help understand how demand varies for your filtered selection vs. the total market. For example, if you choose WA + Edibles + Chocolates (as we have done in the illustration below) you will see this segment saw a much larger increase in sales/unit volume in December (2017, 2018, 2019) compared to the average cannabis product.

This tile should help you determine how much volume your products are selling compared to the total sales so that you can plan to have enough inventory in stores and work with stores to promote your products during times of high (or low) demand.

Period Over Period Average Daily Sales Comparison
Use these tiles to compare monthly/weekly changes in your filter selection against the total market and confirm analysis and trends you may have seen in the above tiles. As all weeks have the same number of days we recommend this chart when doing monthly or quarterly views.

When comparing two time intervals with different counts of distinct days, you may be missing an important piece of context (e.g. comparing February with 28 distinct days to March with 31 distinct days). Looking at WA + Edibles + Chocolates once again we see both December AND November showing stronger-than-overall average daily sales than the rest of the market.

Cannabis Total Market Sales (Units) by Date
The day grid for the total market on the left shows the under or over index of sales for the entire market on any particular day. Hover over any point on the grid to see how sales compares for a typical day. For example, March 16th of 2020 shows the percentage of total sales for the entire market at .4%. Chocolates, in the grid on the right for March 16th of 2020 shows 0.5%, a 25% difference. Differences between these highlight periods which may experience changes in demand and identify variations in the data. You may use this to plan and ensure resources are available to meet and understand demand.

Notice the weeks of the year are shown in vertical columns, with days of the week along the left and the months of the year along the bottom. For the example below we compared chocolate edibles in Washington (Filter Selection) on the right to the rest of the market (Cannabis Total Market Sales) on the left.
